Setup

The booking calendar doesn't show on my product page

This is almost always the theme block. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes → Customize, go to the product template, and add the Rental date picker app block. Save, then reload the product page. The calendar only appears on products you have added in HyreKit under Rental products.

Do I need a developer or theme code changes?

No. HyreKit installs as a theme app block — you add it in the theme editor with a few clicks. No code, no paid installation.

Can you migrate my bookings from another rental app?

Yes, we migrate your existing bookings for free so nothing double-books during the switch. See the migration guide or just email us.

Bookings & availability

How does HyreKit prevent double-bookings?

When a customer picks a pickup and return date, every day in that window is reserved, not just the first day. The reservation is also held in the cart through checkout, so two customers can't buy the same dates. Booked days show struck-through in the calendar.

I have several identical units of the same product. Can each have its own availability?

Yes — on the Standard plan you set the number of units, and each unit is tracked separately. Unit 2 can be out on the weekend while unit 3 stays bookable.

Can I block time between rentals for cleaning or checks?

Yes. Set a turnaround buffer per product (Standard plan) and HyreKit automatically blocks that many days after each return before the next hire can start.

Can I add a booking manually, for a phone or walk-in customer?

Yes, on every plan. Open Bookings → Add booking in the HyreKit admin, pick the product, dates and customer details.

Deposits, extensions & fees

How do security deposits work?

On the Premium plan you set a refundable deposit amount per product. At checkout the customer sees the deposit clearly and ticks a consent box before the deposit is added — no surprises, no chargeback ammunition. After the item comes back, you refund the deposit through Shopify's normal refund flow.

A customer wants to keep the item longer. Can I extend the booking?

Yes (Premium). Open the booking in Bookings, choose Extend, pick the new return date, and HyreKit bills the extra days — as long as the item is free for those dates.

What happens when an item comes back late?

On Premium you can set a per-day late-return fee per product. When a return is late, you apply the fee from the booking's page — it is calculated from the configured daily rate and the number of late days.

Can I give a discount for longer hires?

Yes. On the product's rental settings, set a discount percentage and a minimum number of days. When a customer books at least that many days, the per-day price is reduced automatically in the cart.

Plans, emails & languages

What do I get on the free plan?

Date-range rentals with the whole window reserved, the booking held in cart through checkout, minimum/maximum hire length, the product-page calendar in nine languages, and manual bookings in the admin. Free forever, no per-booking fees on any plan.

Does HyreKit send booking emails to my customers?

HyreKit does not send its own automated emails. Your customers still get Shopify's standard order confirmation, and on Standard and Premium the pickup and return details are included on that confirmation. Many merchants prefer this — one email, no duplicate noise.

Which languages does the calendar support?

The booking calendar ships in nine major languages and switches automatically to the customer's language, with an English fallback. If you need a language we don't cover yet, email us — we add languages on request.

Can I see all bookings in my own calendar app?

Yes — Standard and Premium include an iCal feed you can subscribe to from Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. There is also a booking calendar view inside the HyreKit admin.
